Can slugs be shot through a full choke
WebJan 6, 2011 · Full choke with lead shot, no problem. Full choke with slugs I have had poor results. Shotguns I have shot slugs through performed best with Mod. Fixed full choke with steel or with screw in chokes not steel capable will cause problems if done repeatedly. My Briley thin walls are steel capable, but the one marked Full is for lead only.

WebOct 3, 2009 · As stated before, rifled slugs can be fired through a smoothbore, and smooth, sabot, slugs can be fired through a rifled bore or rifled choke tube. Usually slugs are most accurate with more open chokes. You'll need to shoot your gun at a target, just like a rifle, to find out which slug/choke combination it prefers. Get a few boxes and practice, to see which brands your gun likes and where it shoots at 50 yards and you are good to go. 60 yards with a 20 gauge and an IM choke, no rifling needed.

Only the thin "skirt" area is standard bore size (nominal .730) and will swage down through any modern full choke (nominal .690 - .695) Breneke style slugs have deep "fins" to compress through a full choke. I actually would say that contrary to conventional wisdom, in this instance buckshot through a full choke isn't a problem. Assuming the 000 buck is standard .36 diameter, the bore is actually .410, and the choke is standard full .030 constriction -- the width at the choke should be .38.
